![]() ![]() Half the time you massacre 3 tanks and godless numbers of infantry, and half the time you cant take out a 17-pdr emplacement. The down side is you cant hit a county with it and its damage seems kind of fluky. Capable of taking out entire armies in one hit, the V1 is powerful and is not associated with smoke. Off map arty should be used sparingly (as it costs you munitions and has a re-charge time upwards of 2 min). If nothing else, you got the horde to retreat. Always doctrine specific, off map artillery is effective against emplacements, massed infantry, and buildings. This leads us to the second reason why it is less useful (2) it is associated with red flares to signal the area in which the artillery is to land. In game, off map artillery costs you munitions, and is not usually as effective as on map arty for 2 reasons (1) there is quite a delay (at least for most, the Americans currently get insta-drop super death arty) between calling it in and it actually arriving. The British used the 25-pdr artillery gun, a cannon considered light even by WWII standards. The Germans preferred their version of the 105mm, but also had some advanced forms of early rocket artillery which could be impactful both physically and psychologically. The Americans were famed for having the best fire-support of the war, due largely to the success of the M7 Priest mobile 105mm howitzer. Historically, most battles received artillery support from a fire base many miles behind the lines. Off Map Artillery: Off map arty usually becomes available first, and is useful throughout the game.
